Entering the new millenium, one of phenomena, to which is required to pay attention most amid the large flow of Korean culture, I guess, would be the growth of the masses. Despite the economic and social crisis, which has been accelerated since the end of the 1990s, the populace has remarkably grown, and even the weight, which is occupied by it in culture, came to be increased that much. What showing most the looks of public growth as such in the field of a magazine, is a rise of public role in internet media centering on a cultural magazine and webzine. Preceding experts and intellects in the cultural magazine, ordinary people are appearing as main writers, and it has been a long time since the so-called civil reporters secured the writing staff as well as a direction of an article, while a regular-reporter system was disappeared in webzines such as <Ddanzi Ilbo>. Furthermore, the influence of these webzines, beyond a paper magazine, tends to advance to leading the formation of public opinion for Korean society. If so, where is a cause of the rapid growth of public culture like this in the field of a magazine, and how will it proceed to developing in the future? Accordingly, this study aims to illuminate the recent growth of public culture, focusing on the theory of Mikhil Bakhtin (1895~1975), which is attracting largely attention through offering new sight about popular culture. As a literary theorist born in Russia, he has attracted global attention through ‘theory of polyphonic,' in which characters in a novel each have an independent world view and a behavior pattern from a writer's intention, and through ‘carnival theory,' which did analyze an independent role of the masses in light of medieval public culture. With respect to the rapid growth of the populace, rather than there is its cause simply in the numerical increase, its essential cause is resulted from the movement, in which the masses who have seen their speaking and social-cultural advance blocked up by vested-rights brackets for a long time, strive to find out cultural exit. In that sense, the space of a cultural magazine and webzien is the carnival space where the masses' longing for a new world is pouring out. Through this space, the populace are spelling out their own voices, rejecting reality that has been controlled for a long time, and through this, they intend to build a new world where the influence of minor vested-rights brackets is excluded and the hope of the masses is reflected. Therefore, after inspecting magazine culture of the new millenium age such as a cultural magazine and webzine as a carnival space, this study, on the basis of the fact, aims to take a view of which the looks of desirable magazine culture is.
