The purpose of this study is to examine the system of U.S.A publishing education in order to get the orientation in Korean publishing education. For this purpose, in this study, some major university such as New York University(Center for Publishing), Pace University(Master of Science in Publishing), Rochester Institute of Technology(School of Print Media), Rosemont College, University of Iowa, are analyzed in an aspects of curriculum and courses. The data which is gained through the internet and the directory bulletin is used in construction of this paper. Professionalism is the basic characteristics of U.S.A publishing education. In oder to increase the professionalism, most programs has an internship and final project. Especially most of university has a specialized curriculum. So under the title of publishing, there are many kinds of majors. For example, book publishing, magazine publishing, electronic publishing, publishing business. But in Korea, there is no separated programs under the publishing. In this paper some principles of programs are revealed in the conclusion. These are as follows; 1) Publishing programs must be organized in an aspects of continuity. 2) Publishing curriculum also must be organized in a principle of sequence. 3) Programs are constructed in the base of integration. 4) Publishing programs are organized in a principle of scope. 5) Balance are the most important thing in publishing programs. There are crisis in Korean publishing education because of closing programs in university and college. National policy and social concern are needed for publishing industry and publishing culture.
