Evolutionary economics approach to rationality and institutions

An evolutionary economics questions the possibility of the existence of perfect rationality and unique and efficient equilibrium. 'This paper, based on evolutionary economics perspective, shows that multiple equilibria can exist and one of them can be selected without reference to efficiency criteria but by the factors involving pure coincidence, path-dependency, and/or strategic complementarity. Furthermore, it is shown by illustrations from evolutionary game theory that inefficient equilibrium can persist while it can also evolve toward efficient equilibrium, and that the Coase theorem does not hold in some situations with strategic complementarity and path-dependency.
