The Privacy Characteristics of Bedroom of Adolescents

Three-hundred twenty two adolescents of junior and senior highschools responded the Questionnaire asking their autonomous maintenence of bedroom, rule(knocking the door) and physical sign(closing the door), for privacy. Sixty-four percent of the respondents were using their bedroom entirely by themselves, The maintenance of the room, however, such as cleaning bedroom, arranging clothes and bed in order, and furniture allocation has been done mainly by parents. Parents enter adolescents' bedroom more than once(88.9%) a day without any sign Or notice(67%), Accordingly adolescents try to ensure their bedroom privacy by closing the door all the time(25.1%) or whenever it is neccessary(54.6%). Adolescents have many home appljances such as radio, computer, and telephone in their bedrooms, and this implies that adolescents have the increasing tendency of individual home appliances ownership. This study recommends adolescents do more for maintenance of his or her bedroom, parents make rules for privacy enhancement of adolescents' bedrooms, and all family members do more activities in the living room.
