The use of alcohol has become an established part of the college experience. While campus alcohol abuse is often thought of as time limited behavior, it can be indicative of long term problems. Social survey method was employed. The subjects consisted of 1,125 Chungbuk National University students drawn from the campus residential facilities and class enrollment. Self-report questionnaire was administered, data were analyzed by frequencies and percentiles, t-test, F-test and LSD using SAS. The results indicated that 88.4% were drinker characterized with casual alcohol use and some in rather frequent binge drinking. Gender and age were the significant demographic variables which showed differences in alcohol knowledge and alcohol consequences. Use patterns(the amount of alcohol use and binge drinking experience) were found be to related to alcohol motivation, attitudes and consequences. Finally, peer drinking norms were indeed associated with students' alcohol use patterns. College students tend to overestimate the drinking norms, expectations, and actual drinking behvaior of their peers, even of their closest friends. Implications for development of college alcohol policy were presented.
