Adolescents' Cyber Experience according to the Sex and Age

The purpose of this study is to identity general characteristics of adolescents' Cyberspace experience and to examine whether there are differences in Cyberspace experience according to sex and age. The results were as follows: 1. The overall time period of using Cyberspace was generally for 3 years and the using time of Cyberspace was mostly more than an 1 hour and less than 3 hours. The place of using Cyberspace was mostly at their home and the time of using Cyberspace was mostly in the evening time. Adolescents had expressed a different facet of their own personality in Cyberspace. Cyberspace experience made lots of change in adolescents' life aspects. Cyberspace experience was likely to reduce adolescents' traditional leisure activities such as watching a television & movie, the time spending with peers and family members, and sleeping hours. 2. There were statistically different in the use-motive of Cyberspace according to the sex and age. Girls were more likely to use Cyberspace for the interpersonal-directed motive and non goal-directed motive than boys. Middle school students were more likely to use Cyberspace for the information-directed motive and non goal-directed motive than high schools. There was statistically different in the Cyberspace addiction according to the adolescents' sex. Boy's addiction were stronger than that of girls. However, there was no difference in Cyberspace addiction according to the age. Results are discussed with reference to the future research and applications.
