Recognition and Application of Middle School Students on Food & Nutrition Unit of the Home Economics

The purpose of this study was to find out the student's level of recognition and application regarding the contents of Food & Nutrition in Home Economics class. The questionnaires were distributed to 650 middle school boys and girls in Cheongju and Koisan county and 627 questionnaires were used for statistical analysis(frequency and percent, x² test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation). The results of this study were as follows: 1) In general recognition of Food & Nutrition unit, the difference by gender was not found. And application, interest of Food & Nutrition unit showed ordinary level. 2) The factors that affect the interest of Food & Nutrition unit are gender, the type of school, order of birth in their families and resident place. 3) Gender, family type, school type and the order of birth had an influence on the application of Food & Nutrition unit. 4) Recognition on Food & Nutrition unit was related with the degree of practical application. The higher the degree of Interest in Food & Nutrition, the higher the degree of practical application. In conclusion, strategies should be required to improve the degree of students' Recognition and Interest for the more practical Application.
