Father's Role Satisfaction and Child-rearing Behavior

The purpose of this study was to identify the father's role satisfaction impact on rearing behavior according to socio-demographic characteristics. The objects of this study were the 500 fathers whose children are attending preschool in Sandang Gu and Heounduk Gu, Cheongju. Data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA, LSD post-hoc and Pearson correlation analysis using SPSSWIN program. The results of this study were as follows: 1. When his child was female, Father's role satisfaction was higher for as his income was higher, when he has religion, as his age was elder, and as his educational background was higher. 2. Father's rearing behavior was more affective as his income was higher, when he was religious, and as his educational background was higher. But in case of the extended family, father's rearing behavior was more coercive than normal family. 3. There exists the static relation between father's role satisfaction and rearing behavior. In other words, as the more affective rearing behaviors he has, the more satisfied he was. The major variables on father's affective rearing behavior were father's role satisfaction and communication satisfaction with his children.
