The Interoperability of a CORBA domain and a SNMP domain

The interoperability is essential to provide an integrated network management between heterogeneous networks. CORBA is well-known as one solution to realize such a joint management network. This paper presents the design and implementation of an internet gateway between a CORBA domain and a SNMP domain. This scheme allows a COREA manager to access the SNMP MIB without special transformation of SNMP objects and only by using SNMP API which a CORBA-to-SNMP gateway provides. The addition of managed objects can be represented as a CORBA IDL interface. A new SMI can be updated by recompiling the interface. Thus this gateway approach gives a great advantages of interoperability in a point that any changes of managed object implementation on the server side are not required.
