Peroxidase activity decreased according to the growth of the fission yeast. Thioredoxin and thioltransferase activity were increased at lag phase and stantionary phase due to the regulations of thioredoxin genes and thioltransferae genes were different in accordance with cell growth states. Glutathione is the major redox buffer in the cell. At the lag and the stationary phase, GSH content may be increased for the maintenance of reducing state. Catalase plays a vital role in detoxifying hydrogen peroxide produced during aerobic metabolism Catalase activity was increased as the growth of S. pomhe.
