Effects of various carbon and nitrogen sources on the degradation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene(2, 4-DNT) by Klebsiella sp. strain CI isolated from activated sludge were investigated. Among four different carbon sources(glucose, fructose, sucrose, and maltose) the transformation of 2, 4-DNT with glucose was higher than those with other carbon sources. The addition of sodium nitrate, as a nitrogen source, showed the higher transformation rate of DNT compared to those with other nitrogen sources(ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride). Klebsiella sp. strain C1 could not use 2, 4-DNT as a sole carbon source, but could use it as a sole nitrogen source.
