유사성 이론에 관한 일 고찰 - Goldstone의 SIAM모델을 중심으로 -

이 논문은 심리학의 주요한 개념인 유사성에 관한 Goldstone의 SIAM 모델을 중심으로 기존 모델들을 비교 검토하였다. 유사성은 지금까지 다차원 척도 모델과 대비 모델 등으로 설명되었는데, 최근에 이론-근거 접근론자들은 유사성을 결정하는 데 자극 속성만으로는 불충분하며, 세상 지식이나 선택적 주의도 역시 유사성 판단에 영향을 미친다고 주장하였다. 기존의 다차원 척도 모델이나 대비 모델은 피험자들이 자극 차원 중 어느 차원에 주의를 기울이는 지에 관해 설명하지 못한다. 이러한 한계점에도 불구하고, Goldstone의 SIAM모델은 유사성이 여전히 설명 개념으로서의 가치가 있음을 보여준다. 이 모델에 따르면 대상들간의 대응 관계형성이 유사성 결정에 중요하며, 처리 시간이 증가함에 따라 국소일치보다는 전체 일치가 유사성 판단에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 다차원 척도 모델과 대비 모델을 중심으로 유사성에 관한 이론들을 개관하고, 범주화 연구들에서 드러난 설명 개념으로서의 유사성의 한계점을 검토하였다. 그리고 설명 개념으로서의 유사성이 지니는 가능성을 역동성, 속성들간의 상관 및 관계적 구조라는 측면에서 살펴보았다.

We examined existing models on similarity, especially Goldstone's model. Similarity has been explained by the multidimensional scaling model and the contrast model. Recently, researchers with theory-based approach claim that existing models could not explain similarity. According to them, similarity can not be explained by stimulus properties alone, and world knowledge and selective attention could play important roles in determining similarity. However. similarity still has some possibility as an explanatory concept despite its limitations. Goldstone's SIAM model reveals that similarity has some value as an explanatory concept. In determining similarity. the SIAM model shows that corresponding relation between objects is important and global matching is more important than local matchings as processing time increases. And we reviewed the multidimensional scaling model and the contrast model as representative models. and we discussed the limits of similarity as an explanatory concept revealed in some categorization studies. And then. we considerd the possibility of the similarity as an explanatory concept in respect to dynamics. relations between properties and relational structure.
