Measuring Bank Branch Operating Efficiency Using Data Envelopment Analysis

Measuring the relative efficiency of bank branches is a major issue of great con-cern to bank administrators. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) which is suggested by Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes(1978) can be used to assist in evaluating the branches' performance and suggest ways to improve the quaity of service provided. Additionally, it may be used to assess the need for resources redistribution. In this paper, the DEA is used to evaluate the efficiency of branches of bank and assess the need for resources redistribution. The results of the study will help the bank administration to evaluate the performance of branches and take the necessary corrective actions.
