Korea's export performance to Japan has been absolutely poor over then last decade or so, when its comparative advantage shifted hugely away from labour-intensive products. With rapid industrialization of the latecomers from its neighbouring region, Korea failed to improve non-price competitiveness owing mainly to the lack of technological innovation, and its exports were drastically replaced by their products in Japanese markets.
