As privatization of power industry starts and the full competition comes along, the industry is. not the monopoly of Korea Electircity Power Company(KEPCO) anymore, This also means foreign companies can enter into Korean power market and may stimulate as well Korean companies to widen their operation horizon toward international power market. There will be a need for all the power companies in Korea, including KEPCO and other new companies, to strengthen their competitiveness in the borderless power market of full competition. The experiences KEPCO has accumulated for more than three decade, especially in the technical area and standardization of the facilities, enabled KEPCO to maintain its competitive power in bidding for various international projects in the recent past. KEPCO conducted some studies of restructuring the organization for better oversea operations. The KEPCO's experience offers very important lesson to the private companies newly entering into the power market, especially when they intend to advance to the oversea market. In this paper, first, basic organizational structures are shown and the principles / standards for structure selection are introduced. Second, critical elements in the structure for oversea operation are analyzed, and usefulness of the" team structure" is emphasized. Third, comparison in the merits and shortcomings between the full control by main office and the full independence of branch office is made. And then it suggests the indirect control by main office is more effective. The study. finally, argues it is necessary to have unique design of the structure and appropriate degree of independent authority of the regional office specific to each phase in the project development.
