Recently, the rapidly changing in market environment and deeping competition have been recognized as a major problems in today's manufacturing firms. Manufacturing should provide competitive advantage to the business and not merely make the company's products or services. In this point of view, this paper systematized the theory of focused strategy to grasp the competitiveness tasks out perform the all-round strategic firm, which attempt a broader and mission. In this study of focused strategy, I am concerned with identifying the influences on competitive performance of companies according to the degree of fitness between the focused strategy and manufacturing environment. And the check list was made to survey the 99 manufacturing companies to analyze the focused strategy of electric and electronic industry. The contents of empirical study are below : (1) Analyzed the manufacturing environment group according to the pattern of the uncertainty and complexity in manufacturing environment as manufacturing environment variables. (2) Analyzed focused strategy group according to the target of manufacturing task as manufacturing task variables. (3) Analyzed the fitness with the elements of focused strategy-manufacturing environment matrix, and verified the fitness with the economic results of company(a growth rate of sale, a profit rate of sale and a return of investment). In this approach, it shows the trend that the economic results of company is some what higher when the degree of fitness of strategy has high value between the manufacturing task and manufacturing environment group. Under the same uncertain environment of the production system, their competitive performance depend where focused strategy group they belong. As a conclusion, the competitive advantage in corporate depends on how you focus the manufacturing tasks according to the environment variables and how much consistently you change the target of strategy.
