Korea's Trade Strategy against the U.S.A under NAFTA

This study evaluated the effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on bilateral trade between Korea and the United Staes of America. To analyize the trade effects of NAFTA, this study focussed generally on the economic effect of economic integration, that is, trade diverting effect and trade creating effect. In this paper the rules relating to the inducement of the static effects of economic integration was essentially studied on the rules of origin and GSP inducing trade diversion and on the rules of intellectual property, services, investment, sefe-grard and environment inducing trade ceation. The methodology of this paper allowed modelling Korea's trade strategies through the cost-benefit analysis. Hence, this study produced dynamic trade strategies of Korea's trade strategy against the United States. The results suggested expanded trade for all two countries and an improvement in the Korea's trade position with the United States.
