우리나라의 경우, NGO가 크게 성장하게 된 중요한 요인 중의 하나로 민주화를 지목하면서도 여기에 대한 계량적 연구는 별로 없다 본 논문은 이때까지 관념적인 논의에만 그쳤던 시민사회단체의 급성장에 대한 정치 및 경제적 영향에 대한 논거를 계량적으로 제시하고자 시도한 것이다 또한, 계량적 분석을 위한 자료를 확보하는 과정에서 비록 일부분이기는 하지만 후행 연구에 도움이 될 수 있도록 '시민사회일반'단체의 연도별 증가수에 대한 자료를 정리해 놓았다 본 논문에서는 민주화와 소득증대를 '시민사회일반'으로 분류되는 단체들의 중요한 성장요인으로 보고 계 량적 분석을 했다 회귀분석 결과, 자유도가 커질수록 그리고 국내총생산이나 일인당 국민총소득이 증대할수록 단체의 수가 증가한 것으로 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다
Democtatization has been known to be one of the important factors for the growth of NGOs in recent years Since there have not been many quantitative studies on this aspect, this study investigates the quantitative evidence for such conceptual hypothesis. In the process, this study derives a partial data set for the annual incremental number of 'civil society' NGOs for the benefit of other researchers. The regression results show that the freedom index and the gross domestic product or per capita national income have Statistically significant effect on the growth of the 'civil society' NGOs
