Analysis of Korean Construction Firm's Success Factors After the Korean economic crisis

After the economic crisis, korean construction have beared many difficulties because of the stagnation and higher competition of construction industry. On the way of trials, some companies had been fast growth than before, some others had gone to opposite direction. The purpose of this study is to search key factors for success and failure of construction firm. This study have five chapters and one appendix. The introductory chapter & chapter two describes the present state and structure of construction industry. Chapter three describes the construction firm's strategies which changed after the crisis. In chapter four, 9 success cases and 3 failures were found from the analysis of 36 cases on which were based business data of general construction firms from 1996 to 2001. And, success and failure factors were derived with a view of a industry & firm effect perspective. Chapter five described the results summary, Implications and limits of this study. Conclusion from this study are followings. The analysis shows that success of firm make the bigger effect to enterprise side than the industry. In spite of stagnation, fast growth of the residential market make a quick recovery of construction industry. But, all of firms participated in residential market were not proved to be successful. After all, the success of company is depend on successful strategies(enterprise effect side). In change of environment, company must do the management innovation. And, if the innovation had to be on the changing direction of industry, it would be successful.
