Factors which Influence Health and Behavior in School during Early Adolescence

' This study was conducted to provide health educational program strategies for promoting health and behavior in school according to analysis of relationship between health and behavior in school and factors which inflence them. The data consisted of random sample of 187 students at 2 middle school in Pohang city whose age were between 12 and 14 years old. The instrument used in this study was Health Behavior scale developed by Gi(1985) and modified by Lee(1992), and health knowledge developed by Gang(l992).0 The Cronbach alopha index for the reliability of health practice in this study subjects was 0.85. The analysis methods for the study were descriptive ststistics(percentage, mean, standard deviation), Pearson correlation and Multiple Stepwise Regression. Forty-two point eight percent of the mothers were middle school graduates, 37.5% graduated from high school, 11.2% completed elementary school and 5.7% were college graduates, in order. Forty point five percent of the students were categorized as healthy while 11% were identified as very bad. 31.0% of the students were fair, 24.0% were very healthy and 3.3% were identified as bad. In the sub categories of practice of health care, the range of scores were between a low of 69.28% in mental hygiene to a high of 83.50% in care of communicable. Health and behavior in school The more practice of health care early adolescences have, the better they have health and behavior in school. Health and behavior in school was significantly associated with educational level of mother, (r = 0.275, p=0.001), economic status (r=0.233, P=0.004), and health practice(r=0.316, P=0.000) One point seventy-two percent of variance of health and behavior level at school was explained by practice of health and behavior care (F=13.620, P=0.00 ), 25.24 % of variance of health and behavior level at school was explained by the educational level of mother added to practice of health care (F=11.138,P=0.00)
