The purpose of this study was to investigate major errors in the process of English writing by two elementary school students through case studies. The diaries and e-mail of two elementary school students were reviewed to analyze errors and error types. To investigate these errors and error types, three research questions were raised. First, what are the major errors in the process of English writing of Korean students studying in the ESL environment? Second, what are the error types in the process of English writing of Korean students who are studying in the ESL environment? Third, what are the differences among the errors and error types made by students who have different English proficiency levels? The results of this study indicated that many of the major errors occurred within the verb form. The major error types were avoidance errors, first language transfer errors, and overgeneralization errors. Furthermore, this study found that there were some differences in errors and error types for differing proficiency levels. The differences in errors and error types based on English proficiency level suggested the existence of developmental orders in the process of learning English writing.
