This study aims to investigate how the four college students discussed and constructed meaning while they were reading selected books in a small reading group. Data sources consisted of transcripts of the students' interactions, questionnaires and informal interviews, and the researchers' observation notes. The data were transcribed and categorized from the perspective of lexical approach. Results indicated that the students struggled whenever they encountered: 1) unknown collocations: 2) wrong interpretation caused by unknown collocations: 3) new possible meanings of already known words: 4) metaphorical expressions: and 5) totally unknown words. The findings also showed how the four students attempted to figure out the meaning of the sentences or phrases. From the results of this study, we suggests that teachers should be able to provide students with immediate feedback on issues such as vocabulary, grammar and furthermore general comprehension, especially when students struggle with comprehending the text. Based on the teacher's feedback, students are able to move on to the next level with a right interpretation of the text.
