Research on "Sauyeoljeon" written by Shin Heung-won

This research is focused on trying to find out the plot, categorical featUres, the aspects to deal with materials, the allegorical meanings and the theme of "Sauyeoljeon" written by Shin Heung-won, and its position in literary history. "Sauyeoljeon" composed of Munbangsau-the four precious things of the study- shows the same structure as "Sagiyooljoon" by Sa Ma-cheon. 'The work covering all the four precious things of the study has its origin in "Sahugoon" by Munseung. But the latter has its Structural difference in having each separate title. The work has subtitle 'allegory' under the main title and 'soseo', a kind of preface. This work has a significance in that it treated 'kageon' as one of the chief genre of an allegory. Especially this is the longest among all the works of the same caregory which use all the four precious things of the study as the writing material. And this work has more significant meaning in the literary history in the fact that it broadened the range of the work through extensive reading numerous classical literature. In addition, it has another characteristic for extending space-rime background to domestic one and accepting unprecedentedly personal name(Paek Nul) of Choseon Dynasty. With respect to the story and the theme, I think highly of the literary value and significance in the fact that this work clearly brought out the virtues of the four precious things and gave us the lesson of scholar's consistent academical attitude.
