The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence family functioning. Participants were 377 married people in their 30s and 40s who were recruited in Seoul. Data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. Major findings are as follows: first, participants' reports of family of-origin experiences and family functioning were relatively positive and the level of self-differentiation was low. Second, monthly income had a positive impact on memories of family-of-origin. For self-differentiation, monthly income, education level, sex, and sibling order were statistically significant. Participants who had younger children and who had relatively short marriages had more positive perceptions of their family functioning. Third, family-of-origin experiences had statistically significant relations with both self-differentiation and perception of family functioning. Fourth, family-of-origin experiences had the strongest impact on positive perceptions of current family functioning. When participants had positive memories of their family-of-origin, they perceived their present family as functioning well
