The purpose of this paper is to investigate the poetic world of William Carlos Williams' works based on 'interpenetration.' For Williams, interpenetration means diminishing the boundary between you and I, subject and object, man and woman etc, so that the two have an organic unity. The reason why Williams has so preoccupied on interpenetration throughout his entire life is that he keenly recognizes the drawbacks of 'divorce,' in which all opposite elements are separated one from another. He believes that dualism, traditional values, fixed viewpoints, and rational thinking under white supremacy have made modem human beings become locked into divorce consciousness. In opposition to the white supremacist worldview, he embraces others and otherness such as women, the poor, the colored races and objects of nature which have been oppressed under white supremacy. He strongly recommends that "hybridity" and "crosspollenization," which are symbols of interpenetration, point the way to obliterate the drawbacks of divorce such as infertility, alienation, isolation, and death etc. In this regard, I maintain that Williams' perspective on interpenetration is consistent with "de-bounded" and "de-segregated" thought.
