Managing the Quality Requirements of Software Products

This paper proposes that a systematic method that deploys software user requirements to software internal requirements, in terms of quality. The key framework of the method is quality function deployment (QFD) in order to manage user requirements effectively and efficiently. Well-managing user requirements is one of critical success factors in software development projects. The consistency between the priorities of user requirements and the goals of product design is the first step to meet user satisfaction in software life cycle, i.e. requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance or improvement. Continuous improvement needs to reflect bench-marking information in competitive environments. However, few studies have conducted to solve such problems. This paper adopts a model, incorporating ISO 9126 quality model and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), to determine priorities of quality characteristics. This paper shows how those data are deployed to internal quality priorities using QFD, applying the proposed method to the case of word processor, the most dominant software package.
