The acceptance as well as the frequency of use of telecom products and services depend on various variables, one of them known as usability. Though there are various approaches to assure the usability of user interfaces there are still obstacles to tulfil that requirement. This partly results from missing human factors research. The present article illustrates such deficits with regard to input, output and dialogue components of user interfaces. It finally recommends some strategies how to cope with missing human factors research when one intends to develop innovative user interfaces.
