기업의 분권화에 의한 전략적 적합성이 사업부 성과에 미치는 영향

An Empirical Research on Strategic Fit between Headquarter and Subsidiary

기존의 기업에 대한 다각화 연구는 다각화의 방향, 다각화 유형, 다각화 방법 등에 초점(Gupta, 1987)을 둠으로써 실재 다각화 과점에서 발생하는 조직내부의 관리문제는 간과하였다. 본 연구는 기존 연구를 보완하는 맥락에서 조직내 분권화 요인을 도입, 기업본부전략과 분권화, 사업부전략과 분권화의 관계를 알아보고 두 전략간의 적합성이 사업부 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석해 보고자 한다. 가설의 검증결과 기업본부전략과 분권화의 관계에 관한 가설은 채택되었으며, 또한 사업부전략과 분권화와 관계에 관한 가설도 채택이 되었다. 채택된 가설결과를 토대로 전략간의 적합성을 알아본 결과 진취적 전략-저원가 전략의 경우보다 성과에 있어 우위를 보였지만, 방어적 전략인 경우에는 오히려 사업부가 차별화 전략을 취하는 경우가 저원가 전략에 비해 성과에 있어 우위를 보이는 가설과 정반대의 결과가 나왔다. 연구의 목적인 전략간의 적합성에는 진취적 전략의 경우에만 가능했다. 조직의 특성을 잘 표현하는 분권화 요인의 경우 개별적인 전략과는 기존의 이론들과 적합성을 이루는 결과를 보여 주었지만 명확한 전략간의 적합성을 보여주지는 못했다. 전략의 적합성을 이루기 위한 전제조건인 전략의 계층화에 관한 실증적인 기준이 마련되어 전략의 분류가 용이해진 장점이 있지만, 차후의 실증연구를 위해서는 국내 기업들이 가지고 있는 조직형태에 관한 정학한 정의가 필요하며, 조직의 특성을 나타내는 다른 변수들(공식화, 전문화)과의 관계를 분석하는 연구가 보완된다면 연구결과의 실제적 가치는 높아질 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to find strategic fit between headquarter and subsidiary. To find strategic fit. first HQ strategy is divided into prospector and defender, second SBU's strategy is divided into differentiation and low-cost according to Hofer and Schendel's strategic hierarchy. The hypothesis is that prospector-differentiation strategy is more effective than prospector-low cost strategy and defender-low cost strategy is better than defender -differentiation strategy. The empirical test is partially supported. The result shows that the strategic fit between prospector-differentiation strategy is accepted but defender-low cost strategy is rejected. The conclusion of this study has showed a practical meaning of revealed methodical frame and a study direction in the future.
