The Entry Strategy of Korean Firms for the Port Industry in Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the most attractive countries in the Southeast Asia in terms of business opportunities for its economy is growing rapidly. In this paper, the Vietnamese port industry is introduced and analysed by personal interview and secondary data. Current situation and specific information of the Vietnamese main ports are described, classified with three core zones, the Southland including Ho Chi Min, the Northland including Ha Noi and Hai Phong, and the middleland including Van Phong. Furthermore, future development plans of these ports are outlined. A general entry strategy for the Port of Hai Phong is presented as a real life. In conclusion, this study suggests the Vietnamese port industry should be taken into a serious consideration for foreign investment by the Korean business community.
