Loss Types of Cargo Goods in Trade between South Korea and Chile, and the Countermeasure

As a result of the FTA(Free Trade Agreement) between Korea and Chile, it is expected to increase in the volume of trades. This article suggests a scheme, which makes it possible to cope with the risk management for exporters and importers, under the consideration of Marine & Cargo Insurance. In this article, I show some interesting results such as follows. First, with the analyses of the insured ratio in various countries including Chile, we can observe that the insured ratio in Chile is relatively low. Second, according to the index related to insurance, both the frequency and the severity of insurance losses in Chile are also high compared with those of other countries. Third, analyses of the loss types indicate that major losses of electronic equipment are caused by fire. In case of automobile, major loss types are denting, bending, tearing and scratching, and the major loss types of textiles & miscellaneous goods are theft, pilferage and non-delivery. For the efficient risk management, domestic insurers can introduce the differential premium system classified by regions and exporters are required to pay attention to the details such as the local customs procedure and packing.
