Jung E, Im. 2004. Revisioning History in Paradise. The British and American Language and Literature. 20-1. 5-19. This thesis explores two points. The one is exclusionary attribute of Power which is depicted in Paradise through color coded exclusion and the conflict between 8-rocks of Ruby and Convent's women. Paradise juxtaposes the story of organized patriarchal society(Ruby) and marginalized all-female society(residents of Convent). Morrison reveals that conflict between generation, gender and race is generated from the exclusionary attribute of power.Another point is about revisioning the history. Paradise tells the story of five murdered women through different subjective accounts. In this, Morrison questions the construction of historical narrative again. And in the story of founding Haven, she parodies the Bible. History is a subjective act of experience and imagination and is revised from the present needs and situations. Therefore, Morrison tries to revise the distorted history which is written from white culture's perspective and correct the fabricated discourse.
