重力模型을 이용한 韓ㆍ中ㆍ日 輸出패턴 分析

Empirical Tests on Export Patterns of Korea, China, and Japan using Gravity Model

본 연구는 실증적 측면에서 이국간 무역패턴 (bilateral trade patterns) 을 질 설명하는 모 형으로 인식되고 있는 중력식 (gravity equation) 을 기초로 하여 한ㆍ 중ㆍ 일 3국의 수출무역 의 특점을 비교하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 분석의 초점을 두고 있는 부분은 무역에 참여하는 교역당사국들의 소득관련변수들이 수출에 미치는 효과, 다시 말해 자국시장효과와 삼대국시장 효과 (home market effects and partner market effects) 이다. 이론적인 측면에서 볼 때, 수출국과 수입국의 소득에 대한 수출탄력성의 크기는 모형에 도입되는 가장에 따라 달라진 다 수송비가 고려되지 않은 완전특화모형에서는 수출국 및 수입국의 소득에 대한 수출탄력성 이 모두 1 로 예측되고, 수송비가 존재하고 진입이 자유로운 독점적 경쟁 ( monopolistic competition) 구조나 진입이 자유로운 상호덤핑모형 (reciprocal dumping model) 에서는 수출국의 소득에 대한 수출의 탄력성이 수입국의 소득에 대한 탄력성보다 높다고 알려져 있고 1 진입이 자유롭지 못한 경우에는 반대의 결과가 예측된다. 추정결과, 한국과 중국에서는 자국시장효과가 작용하고 일본에서는 역의 자국시장효과가 작용하는 것으로 나타났다.

This study is to compare characteristics of export trade of Korea, China, and Japan, using gravity equation recognized as one of the best models for explaining bilateral trade patterns in empirical studies. This study leaves a focus on effects of income related variables on export patterns, especially home market effects and partner market effects. In the theoretical side, the magnitude of export elasticities to incomes of an exporting country and an importing country differs according to assumptions introduced in a model. In the monopolistic competition model. a country's exports are more sensitive to own income than to partner's income, and in the Armington model(perfect competition, national product differentiation) a country's exports are more sensitive to partner's income than to own income. With free entry and exit, a country's exports are more sensitive to own income than to partner's income. The result of estimating the gravity equation for exports flows of Korea, China, and Japan is that Korea's export flows and Chinese export flows have strong home markets effects, and export flows in Japan have reverse home market effects.
