This paper is focused on investigating my view that the Lankavatarasutra does not only belong to the Yogacara School But it is more closely related to the Madhyamaka School It is because Madhyamaka thinkers became more engaged with the Lankavatarasutra as t hey began to criticize late Yogacara thinkers for interpreting Mahayana doctrines radically in the 6th century. In order to prove my hypothesis I examined this issue from three different aspects. First, I investigated the relationship between the Lankavatarasutra and the Madhyamaka school in India Buddhism wit h their major works. My aim of this approach is shown how India n Buddhists have different viewpoint from East Asian Buddhists. Second, I introduced two Indian commentaries on the Lankavatarasotra. Even though these two works are later Indian texts, these ar e only extant of Indian commentaries. Therefore, through these texts we could know how Indian Buddhists accept the Lankavatarasotra. Third, I explored two Indian commentators' philosophical viewpoints. My conclusion is that two Indian commentators' ideas are base d on the philosophical tendencies of later Indian Buddhism, more cl osely strongly influenced by the Yogacara_Svatantrika_Madhyamaka school.
