As a Neo-Confucianist in the mid years of the Choson Dynasty period, during his entire life Chang, Hyun-Kwang's main subject of his theory was 宇宙事業(cosmological role).' By this, all the existing creatures in the universe do had ethical meaning, and universe could exist and be sustained by such behaviour. This idea itself can be said to be a definition of human life. With this notion, it can be valid that a man should implement virtuously meaningful conducts since it is his mission as a human being. Therefore, according to hi s logic, ethical and social behaviour of human being is significant and meaningful as it contributes to the existence of universe and its development. Seeking to exalt the virtual worth of human behaviour, he'd found the reason of such a high status in the superiorness of human body and spirit. The human body and spirit are consist of 理(Li, Principle), 氣(Chi, Ether). Man use this recognitive ability t a understand the intrinsical discipline of conduct, 理(Li, Principle), t 0 control his body, and to virtuously react to exterior stimulus. His theory about human body and spirit was a product of introspection about Lee, Hwang's doctrine. Modifying Lee, Hwang's theory in par t, he suggested a new one that explains the essential virtue in the universe and human spirit. Though this new theory involved some misunderstandable elements that regards existing objects and status as good, none the less, he wanted to emphasize "the naturally virtual status." By disclosing "Virtue" which could be preserved in the m ist of the conflict between virtue and vice in reality and also in human mind, he tried to get people focused on it and protect the good elements that "Neo-Confucianism" defined.
