삼국의 여성을 읽는 두 ‘남성’의 시각-『삼국사기』와『삼국유사』를 중심으로-

The Two Male Viewpoints Reading the Women of the Period of Three Kingdoms

김부식의『三國史記』와 일연의『三國遺事』는 삼국의 역사를 전해주는 귀중한 우리의 古典이다. 이들은 흔히 正史와 野史, 사대적/자주적, 유가적/불교적, 귀족적/서민적, 합리적/신비적이라는 점에서 대비되는 역사서로 평가된다. 하지만 우리는 이들 두 고전을 ‘유학자/남성’인 김부식과 ‘승려/남성’인 일연이 삼국의 여성을 각기 어떤 시각으로 읽었는가 하는 점에 초점을 맞추어 살피고자 한다. 분석의 대상은『三國史記』「列傳」에 실려 있는 ‘설씨녀’와‘도미’, 그리고 『三國遺事』「感通篇」에 실려있는 ‘김현감호’으로 삼았다. 그 결과 김부식은 본래의 텍스트에 인위적인 개작을 가하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 설씨녀와 도미처를 유가적 규범인 節行과 孝行에 충실한 여성으로 만들기 위해 본래의 서사를 개작했던 것이다. 한편 일연은 불교적 영험을 증명하기 위해 본래의 텍스트를 자의적으로 해석하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 사랑하는 낭군을 위해 희생한 호랑이를 진짜 호랑이가 아니라 관음보살의 化身일 것이라 해석했던 것이다. 그 결과 다채롭던 이들 삼국의 여성은 유가적/불교적 여념에 충실한 인간형으로 왜곡·고착되고 말았다. 우리는 이런 몇몇 사례를 통해 삼국의 여성이 인간중심적·남성중심적인 중세사회를 경과하면서 점차 생기를 잃어버리게 되는 단초를 읽는다. 순종과 희생이라는 여성의 덕목을 실천하고 있다는 讚辭를 얻는 대신.

Samkuksagi(三國史記)by Kim Bu Sik and Samkukyusa(三國遺事)by Il Yeon are our valuable classics that convey the history of the Three Kingdoms. The two works generally appreciated as confucian history books in terms of authentic history book, subservien/independent, Confucian/Buddhist, aristocrats/ commons, and rational/mysterious history book, respectively. However, we focus here the two male writers-a Confucian male scholar Kim Bu Sik and a male Buddhist monk Il Yeon. A focal point will be with what viewpoint the two men read the women of the period of Three Kingdoms in their classical works. The subjects of analysis are <Seolssinyeo(薛氏女)>, <Domi(都彌〉recorded in Yeolgeon, Samkuksagi(『三國史記』「列傳」)and <Kimhyeon-gamho(金現感虎) recorded in Gamtongpyeon, Samkukyusa(『三國遺事』「感通篇」). Kim Bu Sik seems to adapt the original text factitiously. He adjusted original narrative to make Seolssinyeo and Domi’s wife faithful women to Confucian standards and filial piety. On the other hand, Il Yeon seems to interpret original text arbitrary in order to prove Buddhist miraculous efficacy. He interpreted the tiger that sacrifices herself for her loving husband is not the real tiger but the incarnation of Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. As a result, a variety of women of Three Kingdoms ended up distorted characters and sticked to female types dedicated to Confucian/Buddhist ideas. The women of the Three Kingdoms gradually lose their animation through these cases in humanistic and male-oriented medieval society. Instead, they receive praise that practice the female virtues such as obedience and sacrifice.
