The problem of quality as a diminishing source of competitive advantage has been addressed. Quality and effectiveness does no longer guarantee a success. Customers want "tailor.made" products and companies must seek for flexibility, which emerge as a new competitive advantage beyond quality. Multidimensional construct of flexibility and flexibility mix were described. Applicability of flexibility potential in various production systems has been characterized.
