이 연구는 감각 손상 아동의 적정 배치의 체계화와 특수교육의 질적 제고를 목표로 시각 손상 아동의 선정과 배치를 위한 진단.평가도구의 개발과 관련된 일련의 연구들 가운데 하나로서 기능적 시각 평가(Functional Vision Assessment for Individuals with Visual Impairments)의 개발을 목적으로 수행되었다. 기능적 시각 평가의 목적은 아동이 생활하고 학습하는 환경에서의 관찰과 면접, 아동의 자기 보고를 통하여 아동의 시각 사용을 정확하게 진단ㆍ평가하여 아동에게 적합한 학습 매체와 시각 보조기구를 선정하고, 시각적 접근이 가능한 교육 환경을 설계하고, 평가 결과를 토대로 구체적인 개별화 교육 계획을 수립하는데 있다. 이 연구에서는 시각 손상 아동의 시각 과제 수행과 관련된 모든 정보를 폭넓게 수집할 수 있는 비형식적 평가도구로서의 기능적인 시각 평가 도구의 개발 과정과 그 개발 방법을 보고하고, 이 도구의 구성 요소와 내용을 제시하였다. 이 연구의 결과로 개발된 기능적 시각 평가 도구에 대한 논의에서 준거참조검사의 특성과 평가 결과의 교육 상황에의 적용이라는 관점이 강조되었다.
The purpose of this study was to develop a new functional vision assessment tool for individuals with visual impairments. Functional Vision Assessment for Individuals with Visual Impairments is designed to assess the use of functional vision within specific environments. Assessment should be conducted through observation and open-ended questions for teachers, parents or children themselves to gather all the possible information for the development of individualized educational plan. The individualized educational plan should be designed to meet the educational and functional needs of children with visual impairments through the use of appropriate optical devices, modified teaching methods and visual environments.
