Method of Performance Assessment in the Field of Speaking and Listening - Focused on the teaching and learning of debate -

In order to evaluate the learner's communicative capability through spoken language, proper assessment of the practical communication must ensue. However, the assessment of the learner's communicational performance entails many difficulties - the special issues attributed to the assessment situation itself, the lack of the research on the assessment of communicational teaching -learning, the problems originated from the prejudices about the assessment and so on. This study defined the characteristics of the performance assessment in the field of speaking-listening for the Korean education. It also reflected on the present method of performance assessment in the field of speaking-listening, mainly focused on the debate education and, thus, provided solutions by searching for the new principles of assessment. Moreover, this article reviewed the purposes, contents and methods of communicational performance assessment in the field of speaking-listening, focused on the debate education and provided an example of the assessment criteria.
