Because of the wide-spread use of English, it is time we devote more attention to the problems of the advanced EFL writer. It is hypothesized that well-read EFL writers have acquired most of the written language, and only have small gaps in their competence in written English that do not affect communication. It is also suggested that aspects of the composing process are similar in different languages, and that useful writing strategies for discovering meaning while writing that are developed in the first language can be utilized in the second language. Those that are not appear to be teachable.
