This paper discusses a typological issue, the correlation between syntactic nominalization and the existence of internally-headed construction in SOV languages in rigid type. This relation arises from the nonabsolute correlation between a tensed clause and C, which is absent in SVO languages and head-initial languages. It attempts to account for the prevalence of tensed clause nominalization in Korean which provides a basis for IHRC constructions. It also shows why and how this construction arises through nominalization with the grammatical noun kes; the marginality of the IHRC construction in Korean is accounted for by this process.
