A new computational approaches for extracting straight lines based on the principles of perceptual organization is proposed. image data are first processed by some operators to determine the edge orientation and magnitude. The results of this processing remove unnecessary image details. And detected edges are grouped into regions of similar gradient orientation. Each region consists of edge elements which lie on a contiguous portion of a straight line. Regions are filted Into straight lines by least squares method. Result of straight line extraction on a outdoor scene is also presented.
