베이비붐세대 가계와 X세대 가계의 소비지출 및 저축

Consumption Expenditures and Savings of Baby Boomer Generation Households and Generation X Households

본 연구는 우리나라 베이비붐세대와 X세대 가계간의 소비지출 및 저축을 비교하고 이들에 영향을 미치는 인구 통계학적 변수들의 영향력을 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해, 통계청의 2000년 도시가계연보 원자료를 사용하여 가구주의 연령을 기준으로 베이비붐세대 1,129가계와 X세대 937가계를 선정하였다. 베이비붐세대 가계가 X세는 가계보다 세후 월평균 가계소득과 소비 지출액이 유의하게 많았고, 월평균 저축액은 두세대 집단간 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 소비지출 항목 중 8개 지출 항목들에서 베이비붐세대 가계와 X세대가계 사이에 유의한 차이를 보였고, 소비지출 구성비에 있어서 베이비붐세대 가계는 교육비 지출이 X세대 가계보다 월등히 높은 반면에, X세대 가계는 여가관련 항목의 지출이 상대적으로 높았다. 소비지출 및 저축에 있어서 베이비붐 가계와 X세대 가계간에 각각의 독립변수가 미치는 영향력이 상이한 것으로 분석되었다.

The purpose of this study is to compare the consumption expenditures and savings of Korean baby boomer generation households and those of generation X households and find out the influences of key demographic variables. The data from the 2000 Annual Report on the Family Income and Expenditure Survey published by the Korea National Statistical Office were used and 1,129 baby boomer generation households and 937 generation X households were selected. Baby boomer generation households had significantly larger average after-tax monthly household income and expenditures than generation X households, but there was no difference in average monthly savings amount between the two households. In expenditures, there were significant differences in 8 expenditure categories between the two households. In terms of the composition percentage of consumption expenditures, baby boomer generation households spent more on education expenditures than generation X households, while generation X households spent more on leisure-related expenditures than baby boomer generation households. The results showed significant differences in the influences of the determinants of consumption expenditures and savings between baby boomer generation households and generation X households.
