Lee, Jun-Ho. 2003. A Critical Analysis of the Presuppositional Interpretation of GeneraIized Quantifiers. English Language and Linguistics 16, 85-104. This paper assumes that all lexical items with denotations of type <<e,t>,<<e,t>,t>> are presuppositional. The paper criticallt analyzes the presuppositional interpretation of generalized quantifiers. The paper shows that in non-contingent contexts, speakers' judgements about presupposition failure and truth-value conform to the nonpresuppositionaI interpretation of determiners. The judgements that speakers have about truth and falsity of lawlike quantificational statements support the nonpresuppositional analysis of quantifiers. The presupposition of the sentences which contain definite noun phrases should be treated by establishing the sub-domain d of the whole discourse domain D. The presuppositional analysis is not compatible with an adequate treatment of 'category mistake'.
