Retrospect and Prospect of Studying Sino-Korean Prose

한국한문학에서 크게 주목을 받지 못했던 장르 중의 하나인 산문이 최근에 와서 연구자들에게 크게 조명을 받고 있다. 그러나 산문의 외연이 확대되고 산문연구가 활황을 보이면서도 아직 연구시각이나 연구방법론 등 여러가지 과제나 해결해야 할 문제가 없지 않다. 문체, 문류(쟝르적 의미의 文類)에 대한 연구는 중국의 그것을 그대로 수입하여 형태론적 논의나 형식미를 따지는 수준에 머물고 있으며, 아직 우리 산문의 독자적 미의식이나 미학적 특성을 밝혀내는 단계로까지는 크게 나아가지 못하고 있음도 부인할 수 없다. 작품연구 역시 개략적 내용의 소개 및 인상비평의 수준을 넘지 못하는 것도 고민의 하나이다. 기존의 연구 성과에서 긍정적인 부분을 창조적으로 계승하면서, 동시에 논의의 수준을 도약시키는 방법론적 모색이 절실히 요구되는 시점이다.

The Sino-Korean prose which did not receive a lot of attention from the Korean literature has come under the spotlight recently. As a result, the research of Sino-Korean prose has been significantly augmented. But so many problems such as research directions and methodologies still remain. Regarding style and genre, we are just up to the level of discussing morphological arguments or formality, resorting to Chinese methodologies. Hence, it is required to characterize the inner beauty of Sino-Korean prose. Another problem is that the current study is nothing but a synopsis or a shallow review of the prose. At this point, it is in order to find out a new methodology to upgrade the level of research, based on the positive accumulations of previous researches.
