Moderating Factors on the Performance of Information Systems Outsourcing

정보기술 환경이 급격하게 변화함에 따라 전략적 선택으로서 정보시스템 기능을 외부 벤더에 이전하는 아웃소싱이 점차 늘어나고 있다. 이에 따라 아웃소싱의 성과에 대한 조절요인을 도출하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해, 먼저 아웃소싱 정도를 범위와 깊이로 세분화하여 아웃소싱 차원의 개념을 정립하였다. 또한 조절요인을 통제가 가능한 의사결정 변수와 통제가 불가능한 상황 변수로 구분하였다. 의사결정 변수에는 조직간 파트너십, 조직내 파트너십, 최고경영자의 관심 및 지원이, 상황 변수에는 조직 규모, 산업 유형, 정보기술 의존도, 환경의 불확실성이 포함되었다. 국내 기업을 대상으로 설문조사를 한 결과, 아웃소싱 깊이에서 조직간 파트너십의 경우만 제외하고 모든 의사결정 변수의 성과에 대한 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 상황변수의 경우, 환경의 불확실성만 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

The frequency of information systems outsourcing as a strategic choice is increasing due to the uncertainty of information technologies. The purpose of this paper is to identify the moderating factors which affect the relationship between outsourcing degree and outsourcing performance. This paper conceptualized outsourcing dimensions by decomposing outsourcing degree into outsourcing width and depth. In addition, two different sets of moderating factors were included in the research model. The decision factors which are controllable include inter-organizational partnership, intraorganizational partnership, and top management involvement and support while the situation factors which are uncontrollable include organizational size. industry type, information technology dependency, and uncertainty of environment. The results of the questionnaire survey show that all decision factors, except inter-organizational partnership with respect to outsourcing depth, have the moderating effects on the relationship between outsourcing dimensions and oursourcing performance. Among the situation factors, however, uncertainty of environment has the moderating effect.
