A Principle and Meaning of the Space-Composition

Sukhyangjeon has an important characteristic which contained various space in the plot of the novel. That is to say, lives of two world (二元的世界) are in existence: that realistic space is extended to unrealistic space in the story by stages. For certain, it has three-dimensional effect: that was called the unrealistic space took magnification of the story at its maximum. Namely, the author of the novel made a use of dualism: it had a connotation of the real space and unrealistic space, as an aim of the writer for the improvement of understanding of readers. Naturally, the point of Sukhyangjeon is the real world that spreaded to unrealistic world as another old novel. Its significance is as follows. It means acquirement on the frame of narration that has contribution to stimulating readers' interest. Accordingly, its structure attracted many readers. Second, the skill of dual space is able to manifest the main subject of this novel. The author of the story intended to transmit not merely enjoyment but also instruction at the same time. Exactly, he made a comment on promotion of virtue and reproval of vice (勸善懲惡): making a moral training, the protagonist succeeded to search for herself naturally. Third, the dual space-effect got a presentation of ideas in circulation of human life; the author let readers see the dual space as an activity-sphere of protagonist (Suk-hyang and Yi-seon). Writer emphasized that human life took a circulation centering around the actual world which is possible to be extended for another unreal world.
