The purpose of this study is to examine the historical consciousness and the class consciousness in the epic "Nam-han River", written by Sin, Kyung-Lim. First, this study examined the literary shaping of popular consciousness and representative aspects of nationalism through that. Our popular struggle under the rule of Japanese imperialism includes the peculiarity of anti-classism and anti-imperialism. This retains the feature of the Third World's nationalism, which intends to establish themselves subjecthood against extraction and suppression. Such awareness of national subjecthood is a necessary result of historical experience in colony subordination, and a revelation of resistant nationalism against imperialism. Second, this study found out that the representative form of traditional dramatics genre, which attached a great importance to an aim and a function of delivery. It is an epic as public delivery that retains a property of discourse, which speaks for the consciousness of society and populace of the day. Like this, "Nam-han River" had introduced a style of traditional dramatics as ethnic form into epic positively, and restituted the life and emotion of peasant community and a spirit of unity.
