Diversity of Gasa in Late-Chosun Dynasty

Of Gasa in late-Chosun dynasty. the diversity of the selected Gasa was analyzed in this study. The selected Gasa belong to two categories, i.e. one is Inmul Gasa which characterize the special person. and the other is Oryun Gasa which is a kind of instruction Gasa. Inmul Gasa had more developed the narrative characteristics of Gasa, then it had been closed to the novel. These aspects are as follows: 1) Making a distance through the comic description 2) Progressing scenes through the dialogues 3) Contrasting stories through frame structure Oryun Gasa reveals the various different methods in narration. Those can be classified with three types, i.e. direct instruction, indirect suggestion, and discussion type. These various narrating methods were devised for the purpose of persuading them more efficiently than of instructing readers. This diversity of Gasa was formed by the interaction with novels and had remarkably contributed to the popularization of Gasa. It is the positive reaction for the change of periodical situation. It seems that the traditional morality of late-Chosun dynasty had been confronted with the challenge of new morality. The diversity of Gasa should be highly evaluated in the history of literature.
