A Study on the Psychological Structure of the Characters of 「메밀꽃 필 무렵」

To examine the characters in novels is a kind of general study methodology. One of the main reason of analysing the characters in novels is that human being in a specific situation can be explained. This thesis is about the psychological structure of the characters of 「메밀꽃 필 무렵」, a masterpiece in the history of Korean short story by Lee, Hyo-Suk. So far the research on 「메밀꽃 필 무렵」 has remained at the aspects of outstanding detail of place or structures of the narrative. These phenomena have brought about negligence in 'the basic condition of people' that is one of the crucial principle in Lee, Hyo-Suk's literary aesthetics. As a result of observation, it is indicated that the psychological structure of the characters of 「메밀꽃 필 무렵」 lies in universal morality. In addition, it implies not insanity and fictional world but healthy psychological structure of symbolic world. Thus it is expected that stories which include Korean traditional features will be more studied on the base of tills thesis.
