A Study on the Linguistic Character and the Identity of the Daejeon·Chungnam Dialect

This paper aims at finding out the identity of the Daejeon·Chungnam dialect through the linguistic characteristics. To do so, I at first try to figure out what different characteristics the Chungnam dialect has by comparing it with the Kyeong-gi and Cheonbuk dialect next to the Chungnam Dialect. According to the results of my research, both kpalatalization and h-palatalization are in the following order; Cheonbuk> Chungnam> Kyeong-gi. As you see the following result that, in case of k-palatalization, the result is like Cheonbuk(87%), Chungnam(74%), Kyeong-gi(l5%) in order and in case of h-palatalization, the result is like Cheonbuk(61%), Chungnam(53%), and Kyeong-gi(25%) in order, there is only a little difference between Chungnam and Cheonbuk, however, the difference between Chungnam and Kyeong-gi is so big. So, I paid attention to that difference. Thus, I concluded that there is the base that the Chungnam·Cheonbuk dialect and the Kyeong-gi dialect could be divided existed. But in here we need to take attention to the fact that the difference among three provinces was reduced in h-palatalization rather than in k-palatalization. So I believed that the theory of multiple origination, which proved that h-palatalization was originated in South province dialect and Hwanghae dialect, was verified. That is to say, it shows that h-palatalization was simultaneously happened in each dialect. Therefore, I can verify again the fact that h-palatalization was more produced than k-palatalization in Kyeong-gi dialect, whereas h-palatalization was less produced than k-palatalization in Cheonbuk dialect and Chungnam Dialect.
